Essential Mac: Shift-Command-I
There are a number of keyboard shortcuts I use without even thinking about it anymore on my Mac. These have been around for about as long as I have been using OS-X, but they are so essential to my daily work, that I thought it would be wrong of me not to mention them at some point. Most of you probably already know them, but for those who missed out, memorize these 4 commands… NOW!
The first two are for users of both Safari and Mail.app. Go to any page on Safari, and type Command-I, and Safari will automatically create a new Mail.app message with the contents of the webpage you were viewing.
I used to do this all the time, until I realized that large pages in an email can be considered rude. So, instead of sending the whole graphical web page, I prefer the command, Shift-Command-I, which just creates a new Mail.app message with a link to the page.
Neat, huh!
The last two commands I find myself using constantly were actually used to create this post! Shift-Command-4 is a quick and easy way to take a screen shot. Once you press Shift-Command-4 you will see a crosshairs, which you can then drag across to select an area of the screen you’d like to create an image of. Augment this command by hitting the spacebar afterwards and the cursor turns into a little camera icon indicating that you can now snapshot just the current window you are hovering over. Thats how I grabbed the two screenshots in this post!
This is Micah Walter, with your Morning Coffee Mac Tip… have a great day!
