iPad Love – A New Blog is Born

January 30, 2010 in Uncategorized by David Schloss 2 comments

Okay, so I’m ga-ga over the iPad. There are a few things i wish it had (camera, GPS) that would really help with some app ideas I’ve had for a while, but the idea of the iPad is driving me nuts. I’m probably going to get rid of my 13" MacBook Pro and use a 17" MacBook Pro when it’s a work trip, an iPad when it’s not.

Before the announcement we were debating if we should do a separate iPad and iPhone site (when we still didn’t know what it was going to be called) and with the new features of the iPad and the new apps that will be iPad only, we’ve launched ipad.maccreate.com.

We’re looking forward to lots of coverage of the device as we lead up to the launch in March, so keep an eye on that site.

One of the disappointing things about my iTouch was the way it handles photos. It resizes all photos no matter the original size and therefore when you zoom in (and only one level) it loses sharpness and resolution. When photos are imported through iTunes interface, they are always optimized and thus, the problem. If you look in the itunes library and at the photo cache folder for the stored photo, you will see photos are all 672kb. Open that file in Photoshop yields a 730 x 920 pixel size. That’s it! and the optimization creates a very soft image zoomed in one level and you can not zoom further on the iPod touch.
So I guess what I am asking is: seeing that memory constraints are still there with flash memory, will the optimization still be used on photos? Other ways to transfer photos and open them on the iPad? How does the iPad handle photos, can you put higher resolution photos on it and zoom more levels? I would love to use this to show photos.
